"The Ecoprofit
project is a case of good practice exemplifying how
local communities can establish links with industrial
undertakings in their area and provides them with
information about state and local legislation and their
vision of municipal infrastructure development that the
undertakings will gradually have to adapt to. Candidate
countries are a special case, as most of them have not
yet upgraded their municipal infrastructure charged with
wastewater, drinking water and solid waste management to
the level required by new national legislation. As a
consequence, industrial undertakings face extreme double
pressure, financial as well as professional. They have
to adapt to new internal conditions and at the same time
to the requirements of a developing municipal
infrastructure. Thematic workshops established close
connections among the local community, Ecoprofit
experts, Chamber of Economy and participating
undertakings. The workshops also offered high quality
solutions based on the exchange of good practice cases
among individual undertakings. The greatest benefit of
the project is the fact that the resources and knowledge
invested in the project will contribute to positive
economic results of individual
undertakings." | |

Dr.
Reinhard Wieczorek,
Referee
for Employment and Economic Affairs of the City of
Munich, Germany
"Since we started
ECOPROFIT® in Munich 70 companies have successfully
participated in the project over four years. They have
established comprehensive environment programmes, which
are consistenlty implemented and enhanced. If you look
at the measures that were developed from the 53
companies of the first three years up to 2001, you can
see an impressive balance: ECOPROFIT® has enabled us to
save 3300 tons of CO² emissions, 16.1 million kilowatt
hours of energy, 97 million litres of water, 1000 tons
of residual waste and 1.85 million Euros. As a result we
will continue with all modules of ECOPROFIT® in Munich."

"Saving money with
the environment in a company doesn't look too profitable
at first glance. But the results of the two ECOPROFIT®
projects in the CIty of Hamm have proven that black is
white and we have discovered huge potentials in every
single participating company. In the second run we
reached annual savings of € 233,000 with one-off
investments of € 82,000. Because of the huge success and
strong interest from other companies we have decided to
start a third basic program
immediately." | |

Mag. Gerda Schmid, Department of
Economic Affairs of the Province of Vorarlberg,
Austria
"ECOPROFIT® has been executed since
1996 in Vorarlberg and we already have 115 certified
companies. In the last few years we have developed a new
basis for ECOPROFIT®. The City of Dornbirn, the
industrialist association Vorarlberg, the
environment association, the chamber of commerce and the
Province of Vorarlberg have decided to join forces
and support ECOPROFIT® ideational and substantial. The
Department of Econonmic Affairs of the Province of
Vorarlberg has been charged with the coordination.
All of the above are convinced that ECOPROFIT® highly
contributes to make our economic and living space more
attractive. With the Cleaner Production Center Austria
we have a proficient partner that supports us. What we
hugely appreciate is the flexibility of ECOPROFIT® - it
is applicable for small, medium and large
enterpriseses, for the manufacturing and service
industry. The participants always confirm, that they
profoundly benefit from the exchange of experiences and
new ideas in the workshops." |

"As an experienced
and over a couple of years ECOPROFIT® certified company
the Andritz AG has been benefiting from the systematic
and sustainable development of the environmental ideas
in the framework of the ECOPROFIT® Club membership. With
the consistent preoccupation with environmental issues
like energy, waste and emissions and in close
co-operation with our consultants and through
'best-practice-models', we were able to achieve high
sustainable savings. Nameable results are for example a
50% reduction in commercial waste or water savings of
more than 45%." | |

Ing.
Peter Paul Kemeter,
Siemens
SGP Verkehrstechnik GmbH, Graz, Austria
"The participation
in ECOPROFIT® was a huge success for our business.
Predominantly we were able to promote and reinforce the
environmental awareness in our company and hence in
every single employee. The ECOPROFIT® program was an
ideal supplement for the preparation for the
Siemens-Matrix-Certification (Promehs) according to ISO
14001. Only through the ECOPROFIT® measures we have been
able to establish a ‚Cleaner Production Enterprise'.
Especially in the area of waste and energy we were able
to achieve high savings. Me and my environment team are
very happy to have paritipated in the ECOPROFIT® program
and we will certainly continue contributing to
environmental protection." |

Hubert Aumeier,
Grand Hotel
Wiesler, Graz, Austria
"In addition to
the high quality standard of our décor and services we
would like to incorporate ecological aspects and
let them flow into the atmosphere of our house. Through
ECOPROFIT® we, as a five-star-hotel, have found
means and measures to act environment friendly towards
our guests and employees without restrictions of
the service. We were able to reduce our environmental
impact and simultaneously, which is very positive from
the economic point of view, achieve cost savings. These
savings are invested in further environmental programs.
As the only five-star-hotel in Graz we receive visitors
from all over the world and have decided to give top
priority to act as an ambassador
for ECOPROFIT®." | |
